OurStage Is Your Stage Online

Emerging musical artists now have a new venue online in which to be found. The place is called OurStage, which is your stage for being seen, heard and discovered. In a concept similar to American Idol, OurStage let's the fans vote their favorites to the top of the rankings.

According to Oscar Rohena who works for the site, "The site is all about giving the fans a chance to vote for what they believe are the artists, music, and films out there. It works to give emerging artists a democratic platform to have their skills and talents showcased, promoted, and rewarded."

Right now the website is giving away $10,000 in prizes to the top talents. So, if you're a talented, singer-songwriter and wish to be seen and heard, here's your chance for a little free publicity and a shot at being the next Online Idol.

The Day the Music Died

I'm not going to get all Don McLean on you and pretend I'm on a cruise ship singing drunken phrases of "American Pie," but to some who listen to music and radio on the Internet, this is indeed the day the music died.

Many Internet radio stations are observing a day of silence in protest over higher rates that the Copyright Royalty Board has imposed. Smaller Internet radio stations are most affected with some paying as much as 300-percent more.

So, instead of singing the lyrics to your favorite songs today while at your computer, simply hum in protest over the Day the Music Died in Internet Radio.

Battling TV Networks Air Lyrics Shows

NBC is hounding Fox network about their latest music show, Don't Forget the Lyrics! Wayne Brady will host the show as contestants compete to remember the lyrics to popular songs.

NBC on the other hand is airing their own TV music show, called The Singing Bee. No doubt, like a spelling bee, memory will come into play in this new TV show as well. NBC has decided to outfox FOX by airing their show one day before the Don't Forget the Lyrics debut.

One only has to wonder how many humorous misheard lyrics will come into play in each show. In a few weeks it will be apparent whether the Peacock gets to strut its stuff or if it will indeed be eaten by the Fox. Shows air on July 11 and 12 respectively.

Karaoke Bars Realm of Lyrically Challenged

In a article on TakeOne by George Hawrylenko, he talks about all the misspoken words by the lyrically challenged at karaoke bars. Hawrylenko takes a comical look at many of the misheard lyrics that have been in turn spoke or sung at late night, drunken song mashings.

One of my favorites was the misheard lyrics of an ACDC song "dirty deeds done with sheep", which conjures up all sorts of images that we can't print here. The article is a good read and will bring a smile to the faces of anyone into music lyrics.
