Stop Snitchin' Lyrics Revived

Several years ago stop snitchin' lyrics were hot on the hip hop scene as several rap artists including Ice Cube, Rodney Thomas, The Diplomats, T.A.N.G.G. and The Game were promoting this sentiment through their CD's. Lately the controversy has been revived when CNN's Anderson Cooper hosted several segments last week on how the stop snitchin' lyrics have had a negative impact for prosecutors in urban areas trying to convince witnesses to testify.

Rap star Cam'ron was one of the few artists willing to speak on camera about the lyrics. Cam'ron basically said that if there was a mass murderer next door to him that he wouldn't snitch to police, but would simply move away. Cam'ron, under fire, later apologized for his remarks.

In the stop snitching lyrics by both Ice Cube and The Game, there is a personal message being told in each set. In the Ice Cube stop snitchin' lyrics he talks about how a snitch helped him get incarcerated in prison. In the stop snitchin' lyrics by The Game, he has a personal message especially targeted towards G-Unit.

The stop snitchin' lyrics particularly appeal to those living in the inner cities who already have a distrust of police and thungs and gangstas in their own neighborhoods. T-shirts have also hit stores and been pulled from a few with the stop snitchin' message emblazoned across the fronts.

Some local government officials have tried to outlaw the phrase, but have quickly found themselves face-up with free speech advocates, who have basically told them to stop their bitchin' when it comes to stop snitchin'.
