Breaking the Habit Lyrics by Linkin Park
"Breaking the Habit" lyrics by Linkin Park are the perfect anthem for dealing with addiction. Though the listener is never sure from the song's lyrics, which addiction is being broken, the message is one that is positive, determined and resolute. The opening two lines of "Breaking the Habit" set up the conflict, "Memories consume / Like opening a wound", which one would take is the reason for the addiction in the first place. Blocking out unwanted feelings and memories with addiction is a tactic many take.
A little bit later in the lyrics is the line "I don't know what's worth fighting for / Or why I have to scream", which brings to mind a struggle for self-awareness that will be necessary down the road if the addict is to stay clean and sober.
Still a little further along in the song are the lyrics, "Clutching my cure / I tightly lock the door", which most likely means the singer is going to ride out the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms that come with the addiction. This is also why many addicts fail to get sober is that they are afraid of going through painful withdrawal.
The lyrics of "Breaking the Habit" by Linkin Park are a positive expression of personal power one needs to proclaim and process in order to prohibit the poison that is addiction. Alliteration anyone? Positively!
