Funny Misheard Lyrics on Pearl Jam's Yellow Ledbetter
On Youtube, Misheardlyricsguy has posted a very funny photo illustration of Pearl Jam's song
Yellow Ledbetter. The original song was written by singer Eddie Vedder along with Jeff Ament and Mike McCready as is supposed to be referring to one of Vedder's old friends from Chicago.
Because of Vedder's less than crystal clear enunciation, however, this gives room for mishearing the lyrics and an ensuing parody. The Pearl Jam parody takes the viewer on quite a photography journey with references to the Democrats, Anna Nicole Smith and my particular favorite, Mr. Potato Head.
What's bizarre, though, if you haven't read the
Yellow Ledbetter lyrics before, the parodied version looks and sounds to be every bit as legitimate as the original words. It is certainly worth spending five minutes watching and listening to this very funny
Pearl Jam parody.
Then there is also a page on our site on
misheard music lyrics that is also worth checking out as well.
This Is My Now Wins American Idol Songwriter Competition
Seattle is steaming hot right now. Both
American Idol contestants, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis tried out for
Idol in Seattle. And, now the winning song from the
American Idol Songwriter competition comes from Seattle residents Krippayne and Jeff Peabody.
Yesterday, I blogged about how many of the 20 songwriter finalists had created personal empowerment songs.
This Is My Now lyrics are all about the theme of personal empowerment, courage, not hanging onto the past, letting go and giving oneself a chance for a bright future based in the now.
Seattle may be cold and rainy, but it's a steam bath right now as American Idol eyes and ears are tuned into the talent coming out of the Northwest.
American Idol Songwriter Finalists
The American Idol Songwriter finalists have been posted. The producers at American Idol have narrowed it down to the top 20 songwriters from the thousands of submissions that they have received.
The winning song will be sung by the winning Idol on tomorrow night's 2-hour finale. The producers are saying exactly how they are picking the winning song, but it may actually have to do with who wins after tonight's vote. Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks both have very different styles, strengths and vocal ranges so that one song may work well for one but not the other.
No matter, though. On the
American Idol website you can listen to each of the 20 songwriter finalists and choose your own best of the best. Personal empowerment songs seem to be popular with this group of songwriters, so stay tuned, as they say to see who the final winner is.
Doolittle Needs Doctor After American Idol Shocker
Well, shock of all shocks, Melinda Doolittle was the one to go on last night’s
American Idol competition. Assumed to be the frontrunner in the competition, perhaps fans got lazy and didn’t vote because they thought she was safe or perhaps there was another reason at play.
I won't reprint the email here but one angry reader wrote in saying that the "teeny boppers have taken over American Idol". This angry fan went onto say that young teens with text messaging capabilities had hijacked the show in favor of the other two younger contestants on
American Idol.Conspiracy theorists will say that perhaps this is the work of Howard Stern's "Vote for the Worst" campaign was at work.
Whether you believe in foul play or a free market system rearing its ugly and unpredictable head, its hard to say with a clear conscious that the correct person was ousted last night, in favor of more talented vocalists.
American Idol Final Three to Two Tonight

So, the
American Idol final three is down to two tonight. We have obtained an advanced copy of Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis on the cover of the
TV Guide, which is being distributed tomorrow. So, be sure to just X out the candidate who has fallen tonight.
Well, the final two is not as easy to predict do to strong vocal performances by all candidates in last night's
American Idol TV show. In the past few shows it was easier to predict who was in it to win it, as Randy Jackson likes so say and who was a dead man walking.
With my cool canine musical instincts still intact, my gut feeling is that Melinda Doolittle has done too much to go home now. That means tonight's axe will fall either upon Jordin Sparks or Blake Lewis. I think Jordin is stronger vocally, but Blake is a more unique performer, so tonight we'll get to see how big of fan base each has been able to establish so far.
Predictions? Well, I'll probably be mistaken, but I'll go out on a limb and say that Blake is going home tonight and starting a brilliant bebop career a little earlier than he had hoped.
BBC News Worst Lyrics List is Limp
BBC News has come out with their "Top 10 Worst Lyrics" list. Unfortunately the
BBC top 10 list is a bit limp in its criticism. Taking top horrors on the BBC list is pop singer Des'ree with her hit song "Life".
While these song lyrics are indeed dreadful, they do not compare to most of the lyrics that we list on our
Worst Music Lyrics list. One area in which we agree with the BBC, however, is listing U2 as a purveyor of some of the worst lyrics of all time.
We've chosen a different set of lyrics to critique, though than those listed by the BBC. But, no matter as it just goes to show that even though you're a mega star like U2, that you too, can write occasional clunkers.
To say the BBC list is kind of lame is harsh, but true. There is no mention on the BBC list of the worst set of lyrics of all time, The Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra". What up with that, Dogs?
Stop Snitchin' Lyrics Revived
Several years ago stop snitchin' lyrics were hot on the hip hop scene as several rap artists including Ice Cube, Rodney Thomas, The Diplomats, T.A.N.G.G. and The Game were promoting this sentiment through their CD's. Lately the controversy has been revived when CNN's Anderson Cooper hosted several segments last week on how the stop snitchin' lyrics have had a negative impact for prosecutors in urban areas trying to convince witnesses to testify.
Rap star Cam'ron was one of the few artists willing to speak on camera about the lyrics. Cam'ron basically said that if there was a mass murderer next door to him that he wouldn't snitch to police, but would simply move away. Cam'ron, under fire, later apologized for his remarks.
In the stop snitching lyrics by both Ice Cube and The Game, there is a personal message being told in each set. In the Ice Cube stop snitchin' lyrics he talks about how a snitch helped him get incarcerated in prison. In the stop snitchin' lyrics by The Game, he has a personal message especially targeted towards G-Unit.
The stop snitchin' lyrics particularly appeal to those living in the inner cities who already have a distrust of police and thungs and gangstas in their own neighborhoods. T-shirts have also hit stores and been pulled from a few with the stop snitchin' message emblazoned across the fronts.
Some local government officials have tried to outlaw the phrase, but have quickly found themselves face-up with free speech advocates, who have basically told them to stop their bitchin' when it comes to stop snitchin'.
